Three old-fashioned slide prints inspired by a scene from 25 Days by Per Jacobsen.

25 Days- Per Jacobsen

Chapters Unbound: Episode 34

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Per Jacobsen’s 25 Days moves through its story one day at a time. The structure is straightforward, yet it still keeps you paying attention. Small details return later, and that steady build made the book more engaging than I expected.

“A slide is a kind of photograph. In the old days, there were these projectors that could be used to enlarge the images and display them on a screen using light.”

This quote stood out early on. It describes something simple, but it reminded me how much you can miss within a small frame.

Fragments From a Larger Picture

For this episode, I used three old-fashioned slides to focus on a single moment from the book. It’s a moment that doesn’t need explanation if you’ve read it, and one that shouldn’t be explained if you haven’t. The slides allowed me to show it in parts, without spelling anything out.

“It means that the photo was taken within the last few days.”

That line adds timing without revealing anything. It is direct, and it leaves the rest open, which felt right for this piece.

Between Days

What stood out to me while reading 25 Days was how clearly the days are marked. Each chapter feels separate, yet connected. That separation makes you aware of time passing, which fits the winter setting well. It also reinforces the sense of waiting that runs through the book.

Reading It as Intended

I really enjoyed 25 Days. The tension builds carefully, and the structure plays a big role in that. I can imagine that, if read in one go, there is a point halfway where my attention might slip a little.

However, reading one chapter per day, as intended, changes that experience completely. The story stays sharp. The tension remains present. Each day ends with just enough to make you look forward to the next chapter. That rhythm suits the book and keeps the suspense tangible.
