Vintage 3D printed Bottle of Excedrin, inspired by the Stephen King's The Shining

The Shining - Stephen King

Chapters Unbound: Episode 35

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Stephen King’s The Shining is a book many people think they already know. Even before opening it, there’s a sense of familiarity. Still, reading it again, or for the first time, brings up details that don’t always get the spotlight.

This time, one of those details kept returning quietly: Jack’s reliance on Excedrin.

"He had begun to think of his morning-after thumpers as Excedrin Headache Number Vat 69."

For the first clue, I shared only the finished print. It shows an Excedrin bottle recreated to match the design from the period in which the book was written. The quote stands on its own. It doesn’t explain anything. It simply exists, much like the habit it refers to.

Old Habits in Plain Sight

Excedrin appears early in the story, not as a dramatic object, but as part of Jack’s routine. It’s mentioned casually, which makes it easy to overlook. Yet it keeps coming back in small ways.

“All your old drinking habits, too. Chewing Excedrin. Wiping your mouth all the time. Cranky in the morning.”

For the second clue, I used the basecoat image. The bottle is recognisable, but unfinished. That stage felt appropriate for this quote. The habit is visible, but not fully confronted. It’s there, part of the day, without needing emphasis.

A Familiar Start to the Year

The print does not recreate a specific scene. It reflects a part of Jack that stood out while reading. He tries to keep certain routines under control. However, reminders slip through anyway. Beginning the year with this book made sense. It deals with cycles and the effort to break them. That theme appears often in the story.

For this entry, I kept things straightforward. A bottle, two quotes, and the stages of the paintwork. It felt like a calm way to begin a new year of Chapters Unbound.

Reading It Now

I haven’t read much of King’s work yet, so I didn’t come in with strong expectations. The book didn’t disappoint me. I sometimes struggle with supernatural elements, and that was true in parts of The Shining as well.

Even so, I enjoyed the story. The tension builds steadily, and the smaller, everyday details carried more weight than I expected. Those were the moments that stayed with me most.
